Day #30 – Celebrate!

Well folks, I did it. One creative project, every day, for 30 days.

So for the last day, I did what any normal person would do — I celebrated. As I walked home, I thought on a whim — I should really make chicken tikka masala. So I did. From scratch, with a Cook’s Illustrated recipe. Two hours later, I had a fabulous meal to celebrate. Day #30 — done! (phew!)

The Final Word: On some days, doing the creativity project was really fun. On other days, it was incredibly exhausting. The hardest part was coming up with the idea (where I spent 80 percent of the time) — the execution was usually easy once I put my mind to it. In doing this exercise I learned a lot about the kinds of ideas I generate, and which ones can be successfully executed. I also found a happy medium between trying new things (like drawing, writing a play or creating a song) and building upon old creativity projects from college. I also learned that when it’s 2 a.m. in the morning and, shit, you still haven’t thought of your creativity project for the day… you can still make one that is halfway decent. This blog taught me to trust my instincts and value my ideas. It also taught me to keep it simple — the best ideas are focused, specific, and obvious.

Someone once gave me this advice: “Life is what happens while you are planning.” This blog was all about getting things done. Don’t have the time or resources? Just do it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you can always fix it later.

I never want to be the person who says “Oh I wish I could’ve done this, but I couldn’t.” If I really wanted to do it, I would’ve figured out a way to do it. And that’s what this blog is all about: making something happen. Sure, it was silly, imperfect, and downright awful at times, but hey, I did it, and no one can take that away from me.

So now the question is… what’s next?
